Problem: Square room, two free walls. Solution: Place the bed so its the focal point and the room feels grounded. Stretch storage up the wall with a freestanding armoire. Pair matching small-scale dressers to use as nightstands. Position the bed on an oversize rug that extends at least 2 feet on either side and at the foot of the bed.

The Layout: While we don’t love pushing a bed against the wall, try leaving as little room as possible on one side—this will leave more space on the other for a larger bedside chest. A floating shelf on the opposite side works perfectly well in tight corners. The Bed: Opt for a smaller full bed with built-in storage in lieu of a dresser. The Extras: If you lack a big closet, opt for a clothing rack, place a small bench or stool next to it for any spillover. LOTS OF MIRRORS: room appear bigger.
